Foundation to Year 2 Curriculum
The key learning areas of Literacy, Art and Numeracy are the focus for students in Foundation to Year 2.
Integrated units of work incorporating English, Mathematics, History and Social Sciences, Health, Science, and Technology expand student’s knowledge and understanding of their own society, other societies, local and global environments and the relationships between them.
Topics are chosen to broaden and challenge student’s perceptions of their natural and social worlds and encourage them to work co-cooperatively with others. Learning experiences are designed to build on their experiences as investigators, communicators, and participants in a range of social and environmental settings.
The classroom program in Junior Primary is complemented by studies in Information Communications Technology, Art, Music, Religion and Values, Arabic or Turkish and Physical Education.
Year 3 to Year 6 Curriculum
The development of each student to reach his/her potential as an individual and as a member of a group is of prime importance. Their happiness, confidence, the feeling of security and belonging to their class and School are coupled with an emphasis on attaining the highest standards of which they are capable in all areas of School life.
Within our broad and extensive curriculum, special attention is given to the basic skills in Literacy and Numeracy which are keys to learning in all other curriculum areas.
These key areas are complemented by studies in History and Social Sciences, Health, Science, Technology, Information Communications Technology, Art, Music, Religion and Values, Arabic and Turkish and Physical Education.
Teaching & Learning
The Primary School curriculum is carefully structured to cater for the diverse academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of our students. We believe our students are life-long learners – our curriculum, teaching strategies, assessment and reporting and day-to-day interactions with others model and reflect this.
All students in the Primary School are encouraged to:
- Develop fully their academic, intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical abilities
- Think critically and creatively
- Develop a life-long enthusiasm and respect for learning
- Show respect, courtesy and compassion towards others
- Show initiative and develop qualities of leadership within the school and wider community
- Make morally informed decisions derived from exposure to a variety of ideas and opinions
Special attention is given to the basic skills in Numeracy and Literacy at all levels and in all areas of the curriculum. The ability of the students to communicate with others competently and correctly, in both oral and written language, is of major importance. Classroom programs and organisation enable students to develop independent and collaborative work habits. They learn to work together, sharing ideas and solving problems in a caring, supportive environment.
